Academic Advising

Students are assigned an academic advisor upon enrollment. Academic advisors support and guide students as they progress through their chosen undergraduate studies at the university. Academic advising is a valuable service PU provides to its students; however, students should be familiar with university procedures and requirements. Therefore, students are encouraged to consult with their academic advisor whenever they need guidance in fulfilling their obligations and goals.

The Academic Advisor meets regularly with students face-to-face, via Zoom or through other means of remote conferencing. The goal is to assist with goal setting and staying on track to successfully complete degree requirements. Students receive the individual attention needed to succeed academically and focus on their educational achievement and growth. Advisors are available during office hours, by phone, email or zoom, and respond to student messages the next business day.

Orientation

The academic advisor sets up an orientation meeting with new students by telephone, Zoom or other real-time remote communication system. All new students must complete this orientation prior to beginning their first course. The orientation meeting is designed to facilitate students’ start at the university and familiarize them with the organization and operation of the university. The orientation meeting includes the following:

1

Review the purpose, vision and objectives, academic rules, standards, and regulations of the university.

2

Discuss students’ personal goals.

3

Review the course registration procedure and graduation requirements.

4

Provide the student with a list of PU contacts.

5

Discuss study and time management techniques.

Student Orientation Course

Each student is required to successfully complete the non-credit student success course prior to beginning their first academic course. The course includes the following:

1

Introduction to Panamerican University, its policies, and procedures.

2

Introduction to the online learning environment (if the program is hybrid or online).

3
